Help › Scanning receipts
Scanning receipts
Photos, long receipts, PDFs and shelf tags.
Scan a receipt
- Tap the scan button in the middle of the bottom bar, and choose Receipt.
- Take a photo, or pick up to five photos from your gallery with Photos. Each photo becomes its own receipt.
- Wait a few seconds while Bill Eka reads the items, prices and categories.
- On the review screen, check every line and fix anything that's wrong, then tap Save receipt. Nothing is saved until you do.
Tips for a clean scan
- Fit the whole receipt in the photo, flat and in good light.
- Keep the paper uncrumpled and avoid glare from shiny receipt paper.
- Make sure the store name at the top and the total at the bottom are both in the photo.
Long receipts
If the receipt is too long for one photo, choose Long receipt instead. Take the receipt from top to bottom, one part at a time (up to four parts). Bill Eka reads all the parts together as a single receipt.
Emailed receipts and PDFs
If a shop emailed you a receipt, save it as a PDF and tap Files on the scan screen to pick it.
Check a shelf tag
Choose Shelf tag and take one photo that shows both the product name and the price. Bill Eka compares it with what you've paid for the same item before, so you can see whether it's a good price.
If a scan looks wrong
- One line is wrong. Fix the item name, price or category on the review screen before you save. You can also fix it later from your receipt history.
- Most of it is wrong. Don't save. Go back and scan again with a flatter, better-lit photo.
- The scan fails or takes a long time. Check your internet connection and try again. Scanning needs a connection.
Receipt photos are deleted from our servers as soon as the scan finishes. Only the items, prices and totals are kept.
